Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about working with us
If your question isn’t here, send us a note. We’re glad to help.
When is it time to hire a bookkeeper?
Common signs: you’re catching up on the books at night or on weekends, you can’t say with confidence whether last month was profitable, tax season means digging through statements, or your business has grown past what a spreadsheet can handle. A short conversation will tell you whether ongoing help, a one-time cleanup, or both would make sense.
What happens during a catch-up or cleanup?
We gather the bank, credit card and loan statements for the period that needs work, plus access to your bookkeeping software. We categorize transactions, reconcile each account, fix duplicates and misfiled entries, and send one organized list of questions. You receive clean books and financial statements, ready for your tax preparer or ongoing monthly bookkeeping.
How does project tracking work?
Each job, project or property gets its own tag in your books. We assign income and costs to the right project. Each month you can compare revenue, direct costs and gross profit by project to help with pricing and deciding what to take on next.
How does bookkeeping support tax planning?
Accurate monthly books show how profit is developing throughout the year. That gives you and your tax professional time to discuss estimated payments, major purchases and cash needs before year-end.
Do I have to use QuickBooks?
Tell us which system you use during the first conversation. We can discuss your current setup and whether QuickBooks Online setup, cleanup or a different approach makes sense for your business.
How do you work with my CPA or tax preparer?
We keep your records organized and provide clean financial reports. When appropriate, we coordinate with your CPA or tax preparer so their work starts with reliable numbers.
Do you perform audits?
No. Fowler Financials provides bookkeeping and financial management. We are not a CPA firm and do not perform audits or issue audited or reviewed financial statements.
Do we need to meet in person?
Most monthly bookkeeping can be handled securely online. We work with owners throughout Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. We’ll discuss communication and any meeting needs during your first conversation.
What does it cost?
The scope depends on your transaction volume, number of accounts, the condition of your books and the reports you need. Start with a conversation so we can recommend a sensible first step and discuss pricing for your business.
Let’s talk about your business.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Before you get started.
A few things owners usually want to know before the first conversation.
Q. When is it time to hire a bookkeeper?
Common signs: you're catching up on the books at night or on weekends, you can't say with confidence whether last month was profitable, tax season means digging through boxes and bank statements, or your business has grown past what a spreadsheet can handle. If any of those sound familiar, a short conversation will tell you whether ongoing help, a one-time cleanup, or both would make sense.
Q. What happens during a catch-up or cleanup?
We gather your bank, credit card and loan statements for the period that needs work, plus access to your bookkeeping software if you have it. Then we categorize transactions, reconcile every account, fix duplicates and misfiled entries, and send you one organized list of questions. When it's done, you get clean books and financial statements, ready for your tax preparer or for ongoing monthly bookkeeping.
Q. How does project tracking work?
Each job, project or property gets its own tag in your books. As money comes in and costs go out, we assign them to the right project. Each month you can see revenue, direct costs and gross profit per project, side by side, which helps with pricing and deciding what to take on next.
Q. Are you a CPA firm?
No. We're bookkeeping and financial management. We coordinate with your CPA or tax preparer so they start from clean, tax-ready books.
